Blog Post #3: Dick’s Sporting Goods

Content Strategy


I think we can all agree to this that when it comes to shopping these days it is all done online.  The internet, or the World Wide Web, whatever you really want to call it helps people find a specific product that their looking for and what company’s offer that product.  Dick’s Sporting Good’s message, or in other words “mission”, “Is to be recognized by our customers as the #1 sports and fitness specialty onmi-channel retailer that serves and inspires athletes and outdoor enthusiasts to achieve their personal best through the relentless improvement of everything we do.”  Dick’s Sporting Goods offer many variety of products and brand names in their many store locations and on their website.  They don’t just offer their specific brand but they give their customers the options to buy different brands that meet their needs and wants.  They want to give their customers options and not stick to one specific product or brand name. 
Dick’s Sporting Goods does offer platform-to-platform.  The different platforms that Dick’s Sporting Goods offer are; Twitter, Facebook, their website, Pinterest, YouTube, Google Plus, and their mobile app.  They just announced recently that they have Snapchat and a Periscope accounts so that their followers can get a deeper inside look into their company.  On their Twitter and Facebook account they announce what they are going to do on Periscope, they talk about what they sponsor, certain charity events that they are a part of or what they are bringing awareness to, and they also promote products that they are releasing or what current products that they have.  Dick’s Sporting Goods is very “Social Media” company.  They are constantly saying or doing something on social media to help spread the word about their company and the products that they offer. 
Dick’s Sporting Goods believes in four specific things;

2.       Committed – We believe in relentless improvement
3.       Skilled – We are focused, and precise
4.       Passionate – We live for our sport, our team, and our community
“Believed that sports play a vital role in teaching our children fundamental values like a strong work ethic, teamwork and good sportsmanship”(dickssportinggooods.jobs).  Dick’s Sporting Goods also excels at price, selection of products/brands, and how easy they are.  They want to be that store that anyone can go to.  Everything they offer in their store or online is a sport to them or a passion to their customers.  They like giving their customers not just one brand to select from but from many.  Also, using the social media platforms that they  use helps give them that exposure and helps them stay on top on all the latest trends and just exactly what people are looking for these days. 
They definitely use the content strategy and value propositioning for selling.  Their consumers are following the company on every platform that they use and constantly shop at their locations or online.  Plus, they offer discounts and even a credit card to where you can earn points for your advantage, which is awesome!!
